After discovering the beauty of Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast, we decided it was time to explore the south as well. Sinemorets became the natural choice – a small coastal village surrounded by some of the most distinctive landscapes along the Bulgarian seaside. Sinemorets lies in a part of the coast where nature has retained much of its wild character. Quiet bays and open landscapes exist alongside the comforts of a seaside resort, with welcoming restaurants, bars and places for an evening walk. Ahtopol is only a few kilometres away and offers a livelier atmosphere after sunset. This makes the area suitable both for people looking for peace and nature and for those who prefer more activity in the evenings. Our journey to Sinemorets was several years ago. The village may be more developed and busier today, but we hope it has preserved what impressed us most – its beautiful beaches, untamed coastal views and unmistakable sense of calm.
The Ships Rock Formations
One of the natural landmarks near Sinemorets is the group of rock formations known as “The Ships”. Rising from the sea like a small fleet of stone vessels, they form one of the most recognisable views in the area. Waves constantly break against the rocks, and the landscape is particularly striking around sunrise and sunset. They are easy to reach on foot from the village and are well worth including in a walk along the coast. After dark, the open sky above the rocks also creates excellent conditions for night photography.
The Beaches Around Sinemorets
Butamyata is the more conventional beach in the area. It has a paid section with umbrellas and sunbeds, a free area, several places to eat and a beach bar. This makes it a good option for visitors who prefer to have more facilities close at hand.
Lipite Beach was one of the places that left a strong impression on us. It cannot be reached by car, so getting there requires a walk of around twenty to thirty minutes along a forest path. The effort is worthwhile. The beach is small, wild and enclosed by rocks and greenery. With no restaurants, umbrellas or other facilities, it remains peaceful even during the busiest part of summer. For anyone looking for a quieter beach away from the crowds, Lipite is one of the best choices near Sinemorets.
Veleka Beach is one of the most recognisable places on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast. Here the Veleka River reaches the sea, creating one of the country’s most distinctive coastal landscapes. The beach can be reached on foot from Sinemorets or by car along an unpaved road.
Above the beach is the well-known meadow with its wooden bench. From there, the view opens across the river mouth, the sandbar and the sea. We welcomed some of the most beautiful sunrises of our journey from this exact spot.
Silistar Beach
Silistar lies only a few kilometres south of Sinemorets and is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The wide sandy beach occupies a sheltered bay surrounded by forest. The sea is usually calm, and visitors can choose between a free section and an area with umbrellas, sunbeds and a restaurant.
For us, Silistar became one of the most special places from the entire journey. We spent some of our best days there, welcoming the sunrise, watching the last light of the evening, photographing the night sky and listening to the waves for hours. Moments like these are what turn a journey into a lasting memory.
A Place That Still Calls Us Back
Sinemorets became one of those places our thoughts return to without warning. Not only because of its beautiful beaches and wild landscape, but because of the calm it left with us. The sunrises above the Veleka River, the evenings at Silistar, the night photography around “The Ships” and the sound of the waves are memories that still make us dream about another journey south. We hope Sinemorets has preserved its character and that everyone who visits will find a favourite corner of their own.
