About this photograph

The morning began with rain, and for a while it was uncertain whether there would be a sunrise to photograph at all. By the time we reached Palikari, the rain had stopped, but heavy clouds still remained over the Black Sea. Then the sun found a narrow opening near the horizon and briefly lit the dark rocks with warm light. The contrast between the cold tones of the sea, the rugged coastline and that short burst of sunlight made this one of the strongest moments of the morning.
