About this photograph

I took this photograph at sunrise from Kaleto Fortress near Smolyan. It was an early June morning, clear on the high ground, while thick fog still covered the lower valleys between the surrounding Rhodope ridges. The first sunlight reached the forest and the remains of the fortress as the fog slowly began to move below. The trail to Kaleto starts close to the Nevyastata eco-trail, but the short walk leads to a different view—across the old stone walls and far into the mountains.
