About this photograph

I went to Orpheus Rocks with the idea of photographing the sunset over the Smolyan Lakes, but the weather changed before the evening light could develop. Heavy clouds began gathering above the distant Rhodope ridges and the approaching storm quickly became the main subject. From this angle, the rocks and spruce trees frame the wide view towards the valley of the Smolyan Lakes. There was still some soft light beneath the clouds, but it was already clear that the planned sunset photograph would become a very different scene.
