About this photograph

I took this photograph during the hike to Red Rock near Smolyan. Instead of looking towards the town, I turned the camera towards the rugged ridge itself, where the exposed rocks rise directly beside the dense spruce forest. The pale stone, patches of lichen and trees growing close to the edge reveal the character of the place before the wider panorama appears. Beyond the ridge, the forested hills of the Rhodope Mountains continue towards the horizon.
