About this photograph

The fog was already moving through Fanal when I walked among the old laurel trees. From this spot, one of the heavy, twisted branches formed a natural frame above the path, while the trees behind it gradually disappeared into the mist. I photographed the scene without trying to find a clearer view. The limited visibility was exactly what revealed the unusual shapes of the trees and the quiet character of this part of Madeira’s Laurisilva.
