About this photograph

This is the tree in Fanal that many photographers know as the Witch Tree. Its bent trunk and long, uneven branches make the nickname easy to understand. I photographed it in dense fog, when the surrounding trees had almost disappeared and its dark outline stood alone in the open meadow. The vertical frame follows the full shape of the tree, while the empty space around its crown allows the mist to remain an important part of the scene.
