About this photograph

This winding country road leads towards Podere Poggio Manzuoli near San Quirico d’Orcia—the farmhouse used as Maximus’ home in Gladiator. I photographed the scene in spring, when the fields of Val d’Orcia were intensely green and the cypresses followed the bends of the dirt road towards the distant house. Monte Amiata rises above the landscape in the background.
