About this photograph

While walking along the coast near Arnarstapi, I stopped above Gatklettur, where the sea has opened a broad arch through the dark basalt. I used the vertical frame to include the waves moving through the opening, the weathered cliffs and the long line of the Snæfellsnes coast in the distance. For a brief moment, the changing light beneath the clouds warmed the grass and revealed more of the texture in the volcanic rock.
