About this photograph

I photographed Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia from Piazza del Campo in the historic centre of Siena. From this position, the sun appeared directly above the medieval tower and created a bright starburst against the deep blue sky. The strong backlight left much of the brick façade in shadow, drawing even more attention to the height and elegant outline of one of Siena’s best-known landmarks.
