About this photograph

After photographing Palazzo Pubblico from Piazza del Campo, I continued into its inner courtyard, the Cortile del Podestà. Looking straight up revealed a completely different side of the building, framed by brick walls, Gothic windows and decorated stone details. A section of Torre del Mangia rises into the open blue sky, connecting this quieter interior view with Siena’s familiar skyline outside.
