About this photograph

Hallgrímskirkja is difficult to miss while walking through Reykjavík, but from this angle the statue of Leif Erikson becomes an equally important part of the scene. I photographed the two landmarks together beneath a pale, overcast sky, which suited the cool tones and strong lines of the church’s concrete façade. Its distinctive form was inspired by Iceland’s mountains, glaciers and columnar rock formations.
