About this photograph

I photographed the Sun Voyager during the blue hour, when the illuminated stainless-steel sculpture stood out against the deep-blue sky and the lights along Reykjavík’s waterfront were beginning to glow. Although its form is often mistaken for a Viking ship, Jón Gunnar Árnason created it as a dreamboat and an ode to the sun—a symbol of hope, freedom and the promise of undiscovered territory. The evening light brought out the contrast between the cool Icelandic sky and the warm reflections across its metal frame.
